Did you know that coconut oil can be used to improve your dog’s skin and coat?
Whether your pup suffers from dry or irritated skin, itchy fur, or just needs a little bit of shine added to their coat, coconut oil can be of great help. With its natural antibacterial and moisturising properties, it’s a great way to keep your pup’s skin and fur healthy all year round.
Coconut oil is a natural oil pressed from the meat of the coconut. In its liquid form, it is excellent as an all-natural moisturiser that helps to improve overall coat health. It’s also wonderful for soothing skin issues and preventing skin infections. It has a pleasant smell as well as taste so you may notice your dog licking itself more regularly after application! (Coconut oil is edible for dogs, so it’s completely safe for them to lick their coat).
Coconut oil can also help to fight off bacteria and repel parasites such as fleas and ticks.
To apply coconut oil to your dog’s coat, rub a small amount in your hands, then run your fingers through their fur and gently massage it through. This will give their coat a shiny, glossy look. Be careful not to use too much oil as it can make the fur greasy.
To treat skin irritations, wounds, itchy or dry skin or inflammation, gently rub a small amount of coconut oil directly onto the affected areas using your fingertips.
Coconut oil has been found to have many health benefits for dogs and can be very effective in treating skin problems, but if you have any concerns about applying it to your dog, please consult your vet first.
