Dogs have been used as therapy animals for centuries. They can provide comfort and companionship for people who are recovering from illness or surgery, who have disabilities, or who are elderly.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that aged-care facilities have started welcoming canine companions to bring joy to their residents.
HammondCare aged care homes have partnered with Greyhound Rescue to implement a program whereby the residents are regularly visited by teams of greyhounds and their handlers. This program allows rescued greyhounds to find a new purpose in life by bringing happiness and companionship to the residents which in turn enhances the well-being of both the dogs and the residents.
