From Pet Store to Trusted Dog Care Facility
Paddington Pups began in 2004 as a pet supply store called Purebred Pet Pantry & Supplies on Given Terrace in Brisbane. As the business grew, it relocated to a larger site at 8 Heussler Terrace, Milton in 2007. This move marked a shift from retail into professional dog care, recognising a growing need for safe, structured services for Brisbane’s dogs.
In 2008, the business was purchased and renamed Paddington Pups, and in 2009 it was acquired by Bree Robbins. With a background in human resources and management, Bree brought a strong focus on structure, staff training, and animal welfare, guiding Paddington Pups into its next stage of growth.
Why Paddington Pups Was Created
Paddington Pups was built on a simple idea. Busy dog owners need a safe, caring place where their dogs can spend the day while they work. The goal was to reduce stress for dogs left home alone by providing professional daycare that includes supervision, socialisation, routine, and enrichment, while giving owners peace of mind.
Challenges That Shaped the Business
In January 2011, Paddington Pups faced a major challenge during the Brisbane floods, with the facility submerged under nearly three metres of water. The team’s first priority was safety. All 42 daycare dogs and 6 grooming dogs were evacuated and returned safely to their owners.
The damage required a complete rebuild, including floors, walls, and equipment. Strong community support helped the business recover, and the experience reinforced a core value that still guides Paddington Pups today: dogs always come first.
Following this event, Bree and the management team invested heavily in professional development. In 2012, they travelled to California for advanced training and visited leading dog care facilities to improve safety, handling, and care standards. By 2013, a majority of the team had completed pet first aid training, strengthening preparedness and risk management.
